Dr Gordon Wise

Biography

Senior ophthalmologist at Tasmanian Eye Clinics. He established Tasmanian Eye Clinics with the aim of providing Tasmanians with the very best community-based ophthalmic service. He has been in practice in Hobart for many years. He has had extensive ophthalmic experience having been a visiting medical officer to the Royal Hobart Hospital and senior lecturer in ophthalmology at the University of Tasmania. Dr. Wise estimates he has done over 15,000 cataract extractions as well as a large number of general ophthalmic procedures including operations for glaucoma, strabismus, eyelid cancer and lacrimal surgery.

He has held a number of honorary positions as a Director of Anglicare, Royal Guide Dogs for the Blind, St John’s Hospital Association and Director of the Tasmanian Lions Eye Diagnostic Centre. Dr Wise now consults on a number of general ophthalmic conditions along with guiding Tasmanian Eye Clinics into the future and continuing the practice’s commitment in providing quality eye care for all Tasmanians.

He is a graduate of Sydney University and did his initial ophthalmic training at Sydney Eye Hospital and subsequently in the United Kingdom, finishing with specialist training in ocular plastics at Queen Victoria Hospital, East Grinstead.

Dr. Wise now consults mainly in glaucoma. His current interest is selective laser trabeculoplasty, a treatment used in chronic simple glaucoma. He has written in a number of referred journals on a variety of matters from fluorescein angiography to corneal curvature.
