Biography

Dr Simran Mangat is an eye surgeon specialising in cataract surgery, oculoplastic and lacrimal surgery. After medical school at the University of Birmingham (UK), Simran undertook ophthalmic training along with advanced subspecialty training in oculoplastic and lacrimal surgery.

He has practiced ophthalmology in Hobart since 2016 with a particular emphasis on cataract and oculoplastic surgery. In addition, he is proficient in general ophthalmology including the use of intravitreal injections for management of age-related macular degeneration and diabetic macular oedema.

He enjoys auditing his outcomes and presenting them at peer group meetings. Recent audits presented in Hobart include outcomes of cataract surgery along with the iStent for glaucoma and the outcomes of extended depth of focus intraocular lenses in cataract surgery. He also has presented on techniques in oculoplastic surgery.

He is a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists, the Australian Society of Ophthalmologists and the Royal College of Ophthalmologists, London.

Simran enjoys his family time, seeing his daughter grow up in Hobart and being busy with school and extracurricular activities. Simran and his wife Sonia love playing tennis and attending tennis tournaments. He and his family like to tour around Tasmania and further afield, playing golf , sampling different cuisines and drinking great coffee!
